'There Are Petals In The Shadows' started life in one of co-writer Steve's dreams. He woke with the music of the chorus, and the lyrics 'there are petals in the shadows where the demons do not go'. It alludes to the safety of dark, quiet places.
At the same time the Steve was dreaming this song, a friend was delving deep into a hibiscus bush in her garden, pruning.
The song was fleshed out with Louisa Revolta at Vintage Keys Studio, and the song was finished in summer 2020. It was then re-recorded three times with various different arrangements until the final version was settled upon.
The front cover artwork (and forthcoming video) iis by Steve Christie and Louisa Revolta, with a paper mache devil, based on one from a 1930s photograph by Murray Korman.
